1. What Iberogast® is and what it is used for

Iberogast® is a herbal medicine for use in gastrointestinal disorders. It decreases feelings of fullness and bloating and relieves cramping of the stomach and intestines. Iberogast® has anti-inflammatory, anti-flatulence, antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties. Iberogast® increases levels of prostaglandin and mucins, which protect the mucosa, and decreases levels of leukotrienes, which injure the mucosa. It inhibits secretion of gastric juice by parietal cells in the stomach.

Indications for use:
Iberogast® is used in gastrointestinal diseases associated with disorders of peristalsis and of digestive juice secretion.

The preparation is indicated in:
- cramps of the stomach and intestines
- irritable bowel syndrome
- gastric irritation
- inflammatory conditions of the gastric mucosa

2. Before you take Iberogast®

Do not use if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients of Iberogast®. Not recommended for children under the age of 6 years.

Due to its alcohol content, Iberogast® is not intended for and should not be used by people with alcohol-related disease. If symptoms do not improve after using the medicine for 2 weeks, advice should be sought from a doctor concerning their cause.
Taking other medicines:
There are no interactions known.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
Advice from a doctor should be sought before using the medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Driving and using machines:
When used as instructed with the recommended dosage, Iberogast is not expected to impair the ability to drive a motor vehicle or use machines. A single dose of 20 drops contains only 0.24 g of alcohol. 3

3. How to take Iberogast®

Unless instructed otherwise by your doctor, take Iberogast® in a small quantity of liquid before or during meals.
Adults and adolescents aged over 12 years: 20 drops 3 times daily Children aged 6 to 12 years: 15 drops 3 times daily.
Shake before use. The presence of a sediment or turbidity does not affect the efficacy of Iberogast® liquid.

4. Possible Side effects

Like all medicines, Iberogast® can cause side effects, although not everybody get them. Very rarely you may experience hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing.
In the event of slide effects you should stop taking the product and seek the advice of a doctor. He or she can decide on their severity and any necessary measures.

5. How to store Iberogast®

Store out of the reach and sight of children. Do not store at temperatures above 25°C. The presence of a sediment or turbidity does not affect the efficacy of Iberogast® liquid. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging. After the container has been opened, Iberogast® can be used for a further 8 weeks.

All extracts were obtained with ethanol 30% (v/v).
The medicine contains 29.5 – 32.6 vol.% alcohol.
