Frequently asked questions
Iberogast® has a pleasant herbal taste. This taste comes from the medicinal plant extracts that are used to make Iberogast®. These are Bitter candytuft, Angelica, Chamomile, Caraway, St Mary's thistle, Lemon balm, Peppermint, Greater celandine and Liquorice.
You'll probably be able to recognise a number of these ingredients by their own distinct tastes - Chamomile, for example. Different people are likely to notice and prefer different flavours. If you prefer, you can take Iberogast® in a beverage, such as juice, instead of water.
Iberogast® can be taken for as long as you need. The duration you take Iberogast® for depends on your functional digestive symptoms and how long they last for. If you're not sure if you should take Iberogast® for a prolonged period of time, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
If your symptoms persist see your healthcare professional.
Many people dilute Iberogast® in warm or cold water, or juice.
During pregnancy and lactation please consult your doctor before starting Iberogast®.
Alcohol is a necessary ingredient in some liquid herbal medicines, including Iberogast®, because it helps extract and dissolve the herbal components. The alcohol in Iberogast® also works as a preservative.
A single adult dose of Iberogast® (20 drops) contains only a small amount of alcohol, just 0.24g. By comparison, many everyday foods and drinks contain small amounts of alcohol which are higher volumes than in an adult dose of Iberogast®. For example, an average glass of apple juice contains 0.3–0.7 g and an average slice of rye bread contains 0.3–0.4 g.
In producing Iberogast®, Bayer enforces the same manufacturing standards that apply to its other medicines. Iberogast® is produced under strictly standardised and controlled conditions and quality monitored under standardized laboratory conditions.
Iberogast® is manufactured to the highest medicinal standards, using a specified cultivation and processing of plant material. When producing pharmaceutical products using herbal ingredients, it is important that refined medicinal extraction methods are used, together with tried and tested harvesting procedures in order to maintain efficacy. Iberogast® is produced using a high degree of standardisation, allowing it to be a modern multi-target therapy.
